Since we started our adventure in May 2006, all of our business has come from colleagues we knew in our former positions. But, we both know that we must branch out in order to sustain our business. We have followed faithfully the advice in self-help guides.. i.e., how to start small businesses. We have registered our company as a limited liability corporation. We have received certification as a 'woman-owned' business. We are running ads on google. So .. what's next?

This is Katherine

I am the other half of the Advancement Ink team. Starting this company has been a great experience. But, not an easy experience. Our motivations for creating this service were quite different. Bethany had two children under two so being able to work from home was her objective. I had retired the previous year, but found that although I didn't want to go to a workplace every day, I wanted to be productive at 'something'. Although we are mother and daughter, our skill sets are VERY different. I am definitely left-brained; a numbers person. She is right-brained, very creative with exceptionally good ideas. We complement each others skills and talents. Now .. we decided to start a blog for two reasons. First, we want to share our experiences. Second, we want to learn from other people who have started a small business. What we HAVE learned so far is that there are lots of books and guides that tell you WHAT to do, but not HOW to do it.
